Department of Management Science and Engineering (discipline) was founded in 1980, one of the first departments that has the right to award first class doctorate degrees of Management Science and Engineering in 1996; in the same year, it was approved to establishits post-doctoral research station. In 2002, it was appointed as Beijing’s key discipline, and the subject of "Mobilization of National Economy " was awarded as key discipline by CSTIND. In 2004, this discipline, as the mainstay, got access to the second phase of "985" project: "national defense science and technology management and the research center for national defense mobilization" of philosophical and social sciences innovation base construction projects by the Ministry of Education.
The main research subjects of this department include : Information Management Theories and Methods, Management Decision-making Theories and Quantitative Methods, Industrial Engineering Theories and Methods, Modern Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Management Models and Organizational Design Theories and Methods, Quality and Reliability Management, Financial Engineering and Risk Management, Technology Forecasting and Innovation Management, National Economy Mobilization and Crisis Management, Resources and Environmental Policy and Management.
Currently the Department has two undergraduate programs: Information Management and Information System and E-Commerce.
A total of 25 staff are working in the department and 10 of them are professors, 10 associate professors, 5 lecturers; including 8 PhD student supervisors, one member of the Teaching Management Science and Engineering Steering Committee Ministry of Education, one winner of the National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation, three of them are enrolled in the New Century Excellent Talents Support Program by Ministry of Education.
The department has established cooperative relations with many famous international universities and research institutes. In recent years, many important international academic conferences were held, and many foreign experts have come to deliver lectures, or do scientific research. Many of the professionals were dispatched to the United States, Britain, Germany, Italy,Japan, Spain, Portugal, Hong Kong and Taiwan, as visiting scholars to conduct research cooperation and academic exchanges. Many students are sent to be trained abroad, forming a high level of teaching and research platform.
